Ballota nigra also known as black horehound, is a perennial plant that reaches 80cm with a fluffy stem and leaves ovate, pointed, toothed stems up to 8cm long.
It has vertebrae with many flowers which are pink or violet and black and tiny fruits that are hidden at the base of a funnel-like calyx.
It is found in abandoned fields at low and medium altitude.
Despite its bitter taste, the bees visit its flowers and collect a liquid of exceptional quality.
The herb acts as an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, tonic, astringent, diuretic, emmenagogue, expectorant, antioxidant and antispasmodic.
It helps with depression, anxiety, hysteria, arthritis, bronchial irritations, genetic warts, hypercholesterolemia, mosquito bites, menopause, menstrual disorders, nausea, vomiting, nausea, nervous breakdown.

Making Tea: Put 1 teaspoon of the dried grated leaves and flowers in 1 cup of hot water and leave it for 10-15 minutes before serving.
