Milk Thistle is a spiny plant growing in many regions of Greece and southern Europe. Mainly, are used the seeds of its flowers that are gathered in the summer when they are fully dried. The remaining parts of the plant have low content of active substances. The main active ingredient is silimarin.

The ancient greek doctor Dioscorides recommends the milk thistle for healing wounds, blood cleansing, detoxification, milk growth in breastfeeding in women, and melancholy.
