The name comes from the Italian (uva sultanina), and is probably due to the fact that this raisin was imported from the territory of the Sultan,the Ottoman Empire.

According to another version, it got its name because it originates from the Sultanate province of Persia.
There are other theories, many even employ a myth,because in English the word for raisins, sultana, is the same as the word for sultana.Sultanina came to Greece in 1838 from Smyrna.

Sultana raisins are liquid, have a soft texture and delicate taste.
It is rich in: Fructose, magnesium, potassium, iron and polyphenols.
Research from the University of Illinois has been shown that is a means of protection against dental plaque and caries.
Sultana raisins are eaten as a snack food without further processing and are used in a variety of dishes,
such as fruitcake and Bath buns, sometimes prepared by soaking in water, fruit juice, or alcohol.
